Principal’s Message

Dear Bulldogs Students and Families!

We are well into the second quarter of the school year.  With the shift to Qmlativ this year, we had an extra long time for report cards to come out, but they are now in Qmlativ.  Student Led Conferences are coming up this week, so we encourage you to take a look at your student’s grades and attendance so you can make the most of your time at the school.

As we move towards the holiday season, every morning I am reminded how thankful I am for the students, staff, families and community around me.  Encourage your students to keep moving forward and pressing for the greatness that is in them.

Below are various points of information that we would like to share with you this month.  If you have any questions or need anything, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Thank you for allowing me to work with your child.  It is an honor!

Sincerely,

Matt Fiteny, Principal

Student Led Conferences, Tuesday, 11/26

We will be conducting our annual Student Led Conferences on Tuesday, November 26th between 1:20-7:00 PM (closed 4-5pm for dinner).  A couple of weeks ago, you should have received a phone call, or a text from your student for the purpose of scheduling your conference time.  If you have not scheduled a time, please reach out to your student’s 4th period (PAWS) teacher.  We thank you in advance for participating in this important event. Additionally, please find important information about conference night listed below.  As you come in, please know that this is a busy afternoon for all of us.  We know that the lines to see teachers can get backed up.  We will be doing our best to move families through in a timely, but respectful way.  We would suggest that you plan to see 1-3 teachers during your time.

  1. Where will conferences be held? Conferences will be in the gym and will work as follows:

    • Check in at the main table in room C117 by the bus loop.

      1. NOTE: Conferences are mandatory, so if you do not check-in, your student will be asked to do a make-up the following week.

    • Report to the Auxiliary Gym with your laptop.

    • Sit with your student and have them go over their Student Led Conference Presentation.

    • Visit with 1-3 of your student’s teachers.

  2. Do you still want the opportunity to meet with teachers? Teachers will be available and you are encouraged to speak with 1-3 of your student’s teachers.

  3. Do you need an interpreter? This year, we will be working with our online interpreter services.  This allows us to connect in any language.  If you need an interpreter, teachers will call an interpreter through their computer and we will be able to support you in that language.  This is a new service, so we appreciate your patience as we work through the details.  We encourage you to bring your student to help with interpretation as well.  We will have a limited amount of in-person interpreter services available.  If you need language support or any other accommodations, please reach out to our main office at 253-373-7446.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a LONG day for teachers and we need to feed them. There will be a dinner break between 4:00-5:00 PM. Please do not plan to visit with teachers during those times.

Report Cards

report card

All Kent School District report cards for the 2024-2025 school year will be accessible via Qmlativ/Skyward. This change allows both students and families quicker access to grades via Skyward. Families will be able to view report cards electronically and download a PDF copy to save and/or print for their records.

We encourage all families to utilize Qmlaitv as we will utilize this tool frequently throughout the year. This also means report cards will no longer be mailed. Families may request in person a hard copy of a report card from their school office.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

Attendance impacts learning! Your student can’t learn if they’re not present.  Our expectation is that every student is present and starts the day on time and attends each class on their schedule.

If your student will be absent for a valid reason, please make sure to contact our Attendance Office by email:

MCAttendance@kent.k12.wa.us or (253)373-7464

Late in the Day Student Checkout

Please note that it can be difficult to locate a student for early dismissal when they are out playing at lunch, and that the last 30 minutes of the school day are often our busiest in the Main Office. Thank you in advance for making the effort to pick-up your student for early dismissal outside of lunch times(lunch being from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm) and before the last 30 minutes of the school day.

Student Illness at School

Student Illness Flyer - Mill Creek.pdf

Students will not be medically excused home by the health office if they have called parents to come pick them up prior to being evaluated in the health room by either the health tech or the school nurse. (There are exceptions to every rule.) The reason behind this rule is because as a nurse, I cannot delegate medical judgement (the ability for a minor to decide if they should be sent home for medical reasons) as per my nursing license.  When students do this, it also significantly impacts our ability to accurately evaluate and treat the student. If a student arrives to the health room letting us know they’ve already called their parent, the student will be immediately redirected to the office to decide if the student should be sent home.

Vaccine Information

Our Nurse reminds you to please take a moment to ensure your child is up-to-date on vaccines for the 2024-25 school year. You can check your child’s records on MyIRMobile.com . If you need an exemption form, please make the appointment with your provider soon. For all vaccine-related questions, call the MCMS health office at 253-353-6141. Thank you!

Cell Phone Update

Students are doing a great job keeping cell phones off and away all day and staying focused on their classroom learning.  Please remind students to keep phones away all day.  If you need to get a hold of your student, please call the main office and we will support you.  Thank you for your support in helping keep kids focused on their classes.

Student Safety / Cross at Crosswalks

crosswalk

We have noticed a HUGE improvement in our student safety out front during drop off and pickup.  We appreciate everyone’s continued support in following the directions of the signs posted.  To keep students safe, please remind students to use crosswalks in the morning when they are dropped off.
