Dear Sawyer Woods Elementary Families,
Welcome back, Eagles! I hope your summer was restful and rejuvenating. This summer, I took the opportunity to engage in some volunteer work and even visited the Oregon coast and Vancouver, Canada. It was my first trip to Canada, and I was amazed at how international it is. There were people from all over the world who lived and worked there, and visitors from all over as well.
This year, our focus is on building rigorous learning environments where every student feels a strong sense of belonging. We strive to ensure that each student feels valued, engaged, supported, and inspired so they can reach their full potential.
Meet The Teacher
I’m excited to invite our families to the school on Monday, August 25th, from 2:30 to 3:30 PM for our Meet the Teacher event! We’ll have popsicles in the cafeteria, and this is a great opportunity to meet our dedicated staff. With many new faces at Sawyer Woods this year, we are eager to welcome everyone as we kick off the 2025-26 school year.
Family Involvement
I encourage you to stay engaged and involved in our school activities. Please complete your VIPS (Volunteers in Public Schools) registration at(https://www.kent.k12.wa.us/page/volunteer). This registration allows you to volunteer for classroom parties, field trips, and other roles. You don’t need to be VIPS registered for after-hours school events or assemblies, but please remember that younger children cannot accompany you during school volunteer work.
First Day of School
As we prepare for the first day of school for Grades 1-5 on Wednesday, August 27th, let’s work together to make this a memorable and meaningful year. For our Kindergarten families, the first day will be Tuesday, September 2nd, following their required WaKids family connection conferences on the 27th, 28th, and 29th.
I look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting our new families as we embark on this new school year together.
Here’s to a fantastic school year!
Best,
Andre Koch
